Well, look at what we have here. The return of the “Nubuck” Air Jordan Retro 12. Everyone remembers the fiasco that happened during its original release in 2003 (I know I do). Those who missed out on a pair and still have yet to get one to this day are in luck as it looks like they are indeed coming back for a second round.
It was November of 2003, the first real Jumpman23.com exclusive online limited release. The shoe was the Air Jordan Retro 12 in a new black/white/university blue colorway and the retail price was $300 as it came packaged with a matching hoody and hat. The only way you could gain access to purchasing this package was if you were a registered member of Jumpman23.com (much like it is today with AirJordanFlightClub.com). Well the buzz on these was so crazy that the minute they went on sale, the sever crashed. This was due to thousands if not millions of people all over all pressing the refresh button on their computers trying to get in and by their pair(s), limit was three per person.
I remember that day like it was yesterday, I ended up staying up a whole 24 hours+ trying to get my pairs and boy was it a nightmare. Endless discussions on the Forums as well as numerous other places on the ‘net had people going through the same issue. Then finally there was an update on the site saying due to the amount of traffic, the server has crashed and they are working on fixing the problem. This delayed the release by two whole days if I remember correctly. But in the end everything was fine as I was able to get my three sets (which I still have to this day) and I am a happy man. Now lets fast forward to the present, six years later.
Word got to me back in January that we would be seeing quite a few Air Jordan XII releases in 2009 starting with one or two in the second quarter of 2009. After word broke out of at least three releasing this holiday season, out of nowhere comes pictures of the first Air Jordan XII colorway set to retro this year. That my friends is the return of the “nubuck” Air Jordan Retro 12. For those not familiar with the shoe, see here. Also, they look pretty much spot on compared to the ’03s so no need to complain that they ruined this one. The only complaints should be if you 1. either don’t like the shoe or 2. see no reason why it is being retroed again. I for one have no comment.
So, enjoy the pictures below courtesy of MarqueeSole where if you want to get them early can head on over there as they have a pretty decent run of these. But remember, to get them early you have to be willing to pay the price. Lookout for these to be released sometime in May with what looks like a $150 price tag which is a $15 increase from the last time the XII’s came out. No word yet on what kind of release these will be, but my guess is availability will be somewhat limited. On November 28th, 2003, the Air Jordan XII (12) Nubuck was released. The sneaker received its name from its nubuck composition. Featured alongside this particular material is a combination of black, white, university blue, synthetic rubber, synthetic suede and leather. This Air Jordan XII will be re-releasing later this year in its original make-up of nubuck and trio of colors not showing any major significant changes. Although the Air Jordan XII Nubuck retailed at $200 and was sold accomapneied by a hat and t-shirt in 2003, there is no word yet on retail price or exact release date for the 2009 version. The Air Jordan 12 Nubuck edition comes in an mostly black make-up with University Blue accents. Similar to the Nubuck “package” that dropped in 2003, which included a matching hoody and hat. No word on whether this time around they will drop with matching gear or not but since it’s been a while since we’ve seen any 12’s released (aside from the CDP), these will probably be a must have for most Jordan heads. As early as now, Jordan Brand has prepared a new colorway for December 2009 release. A member of the Air Jordan 12 Family got a perforated treatment on the upper in all White on a White sole. Clean and simple, the White Air Jordan 12 will be a hit by the time it gets open to the market. A reasonable price of $150 is an expected cost.
It seems like this upcoming holiday season will be good to the Air Jordan 12
(XII), as we’ve already previewed the Air Jordan 12 (XII) – Black / Red and the Air Jordan 12 (XII) – White / Red.This time around, they sport a white on white color scheme and are constructed from leather.
In case you didn’t know, the Air Jordan 12 (XII) is inspired by the Nisshoki, which is the Japanese rising sun flag, as well as a 19th century women’s dress boot. It features stitched leather which radiates outward like sun rays, and this theme extends all the way to the arch of the shoe. Look for them to hit Jordan Brand accounts in December and retail for $150.
